The ceramic paints and the vitroceramics to which are added appreciable quantities of zirconium oxide and/or zirconates and/or zirconium silicate and/or zirconium silicoaluminate increase wear resistance. It has been found that, with an aluminium oxide or corundum granulate reinforcement having a particle size between 200 and 40 microns and preferably between 100 and 50 microns added in the concentration of 5-15% by weight, mechanical strength and abrasion resistance increase in a synergistic and unforeseen manner and pass the severe test of grade V PEI; this is something which does not occur in the case of a paint or vitroceramic to which corundum or aluminium oxide in grain form alone or the above zirconium-barium compounds have been added.
