The monitoring method uses a piece of mobile equipment (10) on board the boat or ship being monitored in bidirectional radio contact with the stationary central unit (20) located in the harbour master's office. The equipment (10) transmits over the distance (30) an identification signal at regular intervals to the central unit. It has a transmitting part (12) and the central unit a receiving part (22). The signal is evaluated, providing the registration code of the boat, and a receipt signal is sent to the equipment. An alarm signal can be produced in case of any default for the police or other authorities.
