The unit is designed so that the transmitted light beam (LT) and/or the light beam reflected from the reflection surface (RF), is interrupted by a passing or a stationary rim (SP) of the wheel (RD). The light transmitter (LS) is supplied across an optical distributor (OV). Several combinations, light transmitters/light receivers (LS,LE) are arranged one behind the other in the travel direction. Lenses (SL) are arranged at the endface (SF) of the light conductors (LL). The lenses (SL) are rod lenses and are securely fixed with the endfaces of the light conductors by splicing.
