Closed system process for the recovery of carbon dioxide from coal power stations and its subsequent hydro-biological conversion into methane by anaerobic fermentation, which ends with a fermentation reactor rather than a chimney. Pref. sulphur and nitrogen are removed following liquefaction of the exhaust gas/carbon dioxide, with vol. redn. further increased by cooling and over pressure. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for the treatment of industrial exhaust gases and as a commercially-viable process for the prepn. of methane. Methane is obtd. via a low energy process.
