Locally fixed lighting installation for public roads with number of lamp units

Individually controllable illumination units are provided in the lamp units (2). They are adjusted so that their main beam directions are displaced at 90 deg. to each other respectively in the longitudinal direction of the roadway (1) or at right angles to it. A measuring unit is assigned to the roadway, for evaluating the degree of humidity of its surface. It is connected to a control system, which operates the lamp units. A corresponding condition signal is given, and the control system is designed, so that its operating mode is matched to the road surface condition, depending on the condition signal. With a dry surface, it controls the illumination unit with its main beam directed in the longitudinal direction of the roadway (210). With a damp surface the other illumination unit is directed with its main beam at right angles to the road (220) with increased luminous flux, also to give at least reduced luminous flux at the respective other illumination unit.
