A movement detection procedure is for a complete video image (frame) comprising two sequential half frames (n, n+1), each consisting of a number of video lines arranged vertically under one another, and is designed to function reliably, together with the associated movement detector, with a partial image or picture delay. For movement detection purposes, the complete video image is supplied to a vertical complete image high-pass filter which is designed to pass to the vertical Nyquist frequency having a period which approx. corresponds to the spacing from one video line to the geometrically next but one video-line, and the full video image or picture is sensed as having not moved if the high pass filter (5) supplies a small signal.
