PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the stress in an abrasive layer of a polycrystalline diamond and a cubic boron nitride composite formed compact. ;SOLUTION: An abrasive grain layer 52, the first metallic carbide support material layer 54a, adjacent to the abrasive grain layer 52, the second metallic carbide support material layer 56a adjacent to the first metallic carbide support material layer 54a and a brazing alloy layer 58, located between the first metallic carbide support material layer 54a and the second metallic carbide support material layer 56a and having a higher liquid phase line temperature than about ≥700°C are arranged in the interior of an enclosure when producing a metallic carbide support polycrystalline composite formed compact under high-temperature and high pressure conditions in a high- temperature and high-pressure(HT/HP) apparatus 50. The enclosure is treated under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions for a time sufficient to form the composite formed compact containing the first carbide support bonded to the second carbide support to recover the composite formed compact. The stress in an abrasive table caused by the high-temperature and high-pressure treating conditions, etc., as recognized in the composite formed compact having an especially thick carbide support is reduced in the resultant composite formed compact.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
