PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of malfunction of detection of a trouble by a method wherein when the change of the output value of a pressure detection sensor starting from the stop of control of operation of a purge control valve after a canister close valve is closed exceeds a given value, detection of the trouble of a evaporative fuel control device is suspended. ;SOLUTION: A purge control valve 19 controls the feed of fuel, adsorbed and collected by a canister 11, to an engine 1. A pressure detection sensor 16 detects an internal pressure in the system of an evaporative fuel control device. A control unit 2 controls operation of a purge control valve 19 after a canister close valve 20 is closed. Thereafter, when it is decided that the change of the output value of a pressure detecting sensor 16 starting from the stop of control operation of the purge control valve 19 exceeds a given value, detection of the trouble of the evaporative fuel control device is suspended. This constitution prevents the occurrence of erroneous detection of a trouble when an amount of transpiration gas in the system of the evaporative fuel control device is high and during running on a rough road.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
