PURPOSE:To attain smooth transition of data communication from the talking state by reserving a MODEM connected to a digital converter. CONSTITUTION:In operating a DN key of a multi-function telephone set 41, a control circuit 10 detects whether or not all pooled MODEMs are in operation, and when a MODEM is judged to be idle, an inter face unit corresponding to the telephone set 41 is detected to acquire a trunk line 6. When a dial data is inputted from the telephone set 41, the trunk line 6 is operated by the control circuit 10, which reserves one of the idle pooled MODEMs. Then the control circuit 10 sets a channel between the trunk line 6 and the telephone set 41 to transit the mode into the talking state. In depressing a key 41a in the talking state, the control circuit 10 applies data communication via a MODEM in the reserving state.
