The gel precursor is heat treated at 300C or more for 1 hour or more in an air atmosphere to prepare a precursor powder. This precursor powder was fired at 400 to 900C for 1 hour or more in an air atmosphere to obtain LiCoO2The process for producing the powder is simple and economical, and the produced LiCoO2The powder is fine particles and has a large specific surface area and exhibits excellent physical properties as a cathode material of the lithium secondary battery.
