A unit makes a multilayer body, esp. a domestic refrigerator casing (10). It comprises inner (11) and outer casing (12) and a foamed interlayer. During prodn., the outer casing is supported by base and side walls (34). The inner casing is supported by a core (31). Walls and core are held by carriers, and moved into a position to receive the foamed multilayer body. Base and core can be moved together vertically, and there are a number of cores on the carrier, one of which adopts the supporting position. In an original arrangement facilitating core exchange, the core is moved to the side, and then swung to a mounting position about an axis perpendicular to the core axis, in which the support core lies on the carrier.
