PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject agent capable of treating and preventing diseases such as osteoporosis by compounding a cycloprodigiosin. ;SOLUTION: This agent contains a cycloprodigiosin or its salt, preferably cycloprodigiosin hydrochloride as an active component. The compound has V-ATPase-decoupling H⁺-pump inhibiting activity and is useful as a chemical reagent, an osteoporosis treating agent, an arteriosclerosis treating agent, an antibiotic, an anticancer agent stimulator, a sedative, etc. The daily dose of this compound is, in the case of oral administration, 0.1-0.5/kg, and in the case of parenteral administration, especially of injection, 0.1-0.5mg/kg. This compound is produced without having contaminants of other prodigiosins by culturing the strain Pseudoalteromonas denitrificans AK-1 (FERM P-15771), a kind of marine bacteria.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
