PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently shut off the pumping light included in output at the time of obtaining signal light parted by a wavelength difference Δλ(Δλ=|λ1-λ2|) between a wavelength λ1 and a wavelength λ2 from the pumping light of the former wavelength and probe light of the latter wavelength. ;SOLUTION: The pumping light of the wavelength λ1 as linearly polarized light and the probe light of the wavelength λ2 as circularly polarized light are inputted to an optical amplifier element 2 functioning as a mixer, by which the wavelength conversion to a wavelength λ3 (λ3=λ1+Δλ) is executed. The output there of is passed through a polarizer 3 varying by 90°C from the polarized light of the pumping light, by which the pumping light of the wavelength λ1 is shut off. The intrusion of the pumping light into the signal light of the wavelength λ3 obtd. by the wavelength conversion is eliminated and, thereafter, the signal light is outputted through an optical filter 4 to allow the passage of the wavelength λ3, by which the influence of the pumping light is eliminated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
