PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject protein useful for the diagnosis and treatment of Chlamydia trachomatis infection and the measurement of an antibody against the same, in a large amount by inserting a gene of a major outer membrane protein of Chlamydia trachomatis into a vector, integrating the vector into host cells and proliferating the cells. ;SOLUTION: This major outer membrane protein of Chlamydia trachomatis, not substantially containing the other protein exhibiting a cross reactivity to bacteria belonging to the Genus Chlamydia, useful for the diagnosis of Chlamydia trachomatis infection, an antigen used as a vaccine, etc., and a reagent, etc., used as a measuring reagent for an antibody against Chlamydia trachomatis, is obtained in a large amount by inserting a gene encoding the major outer membrane protein of Chlamydia trachomatis expressed by the formula, etc., into an expression vector, transforming culturable host cells besides the bacteria belonging to the Genus Chlamydia (e.g.; E.
