PURPOSE: To make possible an adaptive control by a short sampling cycle with the use of a low level microcomputer and to improve the stability of control accuracy and a controller by inputting the input value of a parameter identifying/adjusting mechanism by multiplying it by a prescribed factor other than 1. ;CONSTITUTION: The range of the value of an intermediate variable that is possible to reach is determined by the input ζ (k) to a parameter adjusting mechanism. After ζ (k) is multiplied by a prescribed factor C1 other than 1 in order to change the range of the value of the intermediate variable that is possible to reach, it is inputted to the parameter adjusting mechanism. For instance, the value of an intermediate variable Γ (k) is in inverse proportion to the square of the factor C1. At this time, θhat (k) to be the output of the parameter adjusting mechanism is uniquely determined by only a control plant and the same output is imparted to a controller even if the values of ζ (k) and y (k) are multiplied by the factor.
