REACTION PRODUCTS OF POLYISOBUTENES AND NITROGEN OXIDES OR WITH A MIXTURE OF NITROGEN OXIDES AND OXYGEN, PROCESS OF THEIR PREPARATION AND THEIR USE AS FUEL AND LUBRICANT ADDITIVES

In the present invention there is disclosed a reaction product of polyisobutenes with nitrogen oxides or a mixture of nitrogen oxides and oxygen of a derivative thereof, whereby the polyisobutene average degree of polymerization P ranged within 10 to 100 and a content E is in the range of from 60 to 90 percent of double bonds which can react with maleic anhydride, whereby the value E = 100 percent corresponds to the theoretical value for the case where each molecule of the polyisobutene has such a reactive double bond. The obtained reaction product is suitable as additive for fuels, in particular for compression ignition engines, and for lubricants. There is further described a process for preparing such reaction product as well as its use as an additive or a lubricant.
