An electronic private branch exchange system with amessage recording function comprises a private branchexchange with at least one office line and a pluralityof extensions for selectively switching between theoffice line and the extensions and between theextensions, extension telephones connected to theextensions, and a recording unit for recording andreproducing speech transmitted and received by theextension telephones, wherein each of the extensiontelephones includes request input means for inputtingdesired requests including requests for recording andreproducing speech related to its own call, and requestinforming means for informing the electronic privatebranch exchange of the contents of the request inputtedfrom the request input means, and the electronic privatebranch exchange includes recording management controlmeans for providing control of the recording unitaccording to the contents of the request, the controlincluding the recording and reproducing of the contentsof speech, when the request is informed by at least oneof the extension telephones.
