A device for fixing the position of a light sensor within a range of motion associated with an optical device. The fixture provides a range of motion over five degrees of freedom (DOF) during the fixation process. The device includes a housing for the light assembly and an intermediate bracket fixed to the optical device. The range of motion is provided by the gimbal design in the housing and the middle bracket, and the gimbal design makes 5DOF. No screws are included in the fastening process for delivering torque or external force to the parts aligned and secured in position. An ultraviolet (UV) active adhesive is used to secure the sensor housing to the middle bracket and the middle bracket to the optical scanner housing. The middle bracket is made of a material that is transparent to ultraviolet light, and most of the ultraviolet light cures through the middle bracket and the adhesive applied between the parts. Holes in the vertical direction extend through the tabs of the housing and the middle bracket. Adhesive is applied to this area which is forced by the part. Adhesive is liquid during the alignment process, which allows relative movement between parts. When alignment is achieved, the adhesive area is exposed to ultraviolet light which cures the adhesive into a rigid vertical column that forms the shape of a chemical rivet. These chemical rivets provide very strong mechanical fastening of the components as well as adhesive bonding of the parts.
