Laser thermal printer with large pixel spacing modulator array and small spacing at printing plane

The printer has a laser array 12 that consists of multi mode diode lasers 14. The laser outputs are directed through an optical system 13 that has a number of collimating lenses 22 and a field lens. The light is received by a modulator lens arrangement 30 that provides 100 percent pixel coverage and then to a modulator array 40 that is an electro optical device that can have the polarising characteristic electrically changed. The output is focussed by a printer lens 50 onto the photosensitive cylinder 60.
