A 4-by-4-by-4 puzzle cube comprises a base made up from a central axle block 10, six rotatable blocks 20 mounted on the central axle block, and twenty-four first slidable blocks 30 and twelve second slidable blocks 40 disposed as a second slidable block sandwiched between two first slidable blocks, themselves sandwiched between each pair of rotatable blocks. The puzzle surface comprises twenty-four central movable units, twenty-four edge movable units and eight corner movable units. By suitable design of the central axle block (Figure 5) the interior portions of the puzzle do not clash on manipulation.
