Unlike prior art arrangements and processes for connecting printed circuit boards to other components in proximity switches, flexible printed circuits are not used. The circuit board is a flat unit (3) with prefitted connecting pins (4) thereon. The latter are held in a defined position and orientation in relation to positioning means (15, 16) which also act as guides for the fitting and positioning of the preassembled flat unit (3) in a space in an upper section (2) of the housing of the proximity switch. This makes it possible in a simple way to obtain a defined position of the connecting pins (4) and other components (5, 6, 8, 9) which facilitates their connection and thus simplifies assembly.
