PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten manufacturing time and to manufacture a large electrolyte plate via mass production by heating and pressing a holding plate powder layer made of ceramic powder and coated with a thermoplastic binder. SOLUTION: The surface of the ceramic powder mainly made of -lithium aluminate having excellent stability and good dispersibility is jet-coated with a thermoplastic binder easily softened by heat and having rubber elasticity such as an ethylene-propylene copolymer resin at 5-15 wt.% against the ceramic powder to obtain electrolyte holding powder. This powder is molded into a matrix sheet by a heating roller at the roll temperature of 100-200 deg.C. An electrolyte plate can be continuously manufactured at a relatively low temperature, no drying is required after casting, and the manufacturing time can be sharply shortened. The binder only exists on the surface of ceramic grains, the electrolyte plate can be molded with a small quantity of the binder, and the occurrence of noxious gas can be decreased when the electrolyte plate is assembled into a battery.
