摘要
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber optic link for lowering limitation to signal or pump sending power due to stimulated Raman scattering by using attenuator means in the Raman gain region. ;SOLUTION: Various techniques are proposed for limiting stimulated Raman scattering. In particular, the use of optical fibers 96 and 100 which are lightly- doped with dysprosium, the attenuation of which increases rapidly beyond 1,500 nm, is proposed. The use of this fiber for transporting the pump powers 94 and 98 at 1,480 nm toward the remote amplifiers 84 and 88 enables injection of pump power up to about 10 W, as compared to the current limit of 1.3 W. This technique enables the range of the links to be increased by approximately 80 km.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
