PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of calculating the distance between two points on arbitrary latitudes with little error. ;SOLUTION: The method of calculating the distance R between two points P1 (latitude Y1, longitude X1) and P2 (latitude Y2, longitude X2) is to calculate the distance Δl a between two points in the latitudinal direction and the distance Δlo between two points in the longitudinal direction, using approximate curves based on the least square law, representing the distance per latitude 1 min on an arbitrary latitude and the distance per latitude 1 min on an arbitrary longitude, respectively and calculate the distance R based on Δla, Δlo.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
