PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely seal the tail part without prolonging the length of a shield excavating machine having a widening function. ;SOLUTION: This device is provided with belt-form first tail seal brushes 33, 35 installed in a plurality of stages in the forward and backward direction at the inside face of the external body 10 arranged at the inside in the mutually superposed external bodies 4, 10, and belt-form second tail seal brushes 49, 53 installed in a plurality of stages at the positiones where these brushes mutually slide with the first tail brushes 33, 35, at the inside face of the external body 4 arranged at the outside in the mutually superposed external bodies. In this case, a gap in which the end of the external body 4 arranged in the inside can be inserted is provided between the inside of the external body 4 arranged at the outside and the installation part of the second tail brush, and a cut off plate 37 closing the gap is provided in the external body 10 arranged at the inside.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
