PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to register more than one pattern by using more than one picture data for one category of a registration object. ;SOLUTION: As this registration method, first of all, plural areas are divided and set in more than one picture data of a registration object to be registered (S10). Next, a feature vector is generated in each area of divided and set picture data (S20). Thereafter, a cluster set of a set of clusters belonging to each area is generated from the feature vector in each area generated by using more than one picture data (S30). Then, more than one patterns for one category of registration object are registered by corresponding the category of registration object and a pattern indicated by a pair of cluster existing in the cluster set of each area to each cluster in the cluster set of each area (S40).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
