PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bright coating composition containing a colored aluminum flake pigment and capable of imparting a strong bright appearance and an excellent appearance without generating a glittering appearance on a coating film, to provide a method for forming a bright coating film by coating the bright coating composition, and to provide a bright coating article on which the coating film is formed. ;SOLUTION: This bright coating composition contains a colored aluminum flake pigment having a 400 mesh sieve residue of ≤0.01 wt.% and a water surface diffusion area value of 7,000-10,000 cm2/g. The colored aluminum flake pigment has a metal oxide coating layer formed by a chemical gas phase deposition method (CVD method). Aluminum flakes are heated a 170-250°C for ≥12 hr to remove organic impurities, and subsequently subjected to the formation of the metal oxide layers. This method for forming a bright coating layer comprises coating the surface of a substrate with the bright coating composition, further coating the coated substrate with a clear coating in an at least one layer before the coated bright coating composition is cured, and subsequently baking the coated coatings.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
