PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve machinability while keeping prescribed hardness by adding specific amounts of Ni or any of Si, misch metal, Ti, Mg, and Ca to molten chromium cast iron containing Cr of ultrahigh concentration and then carrying out causing. ;SOLUTION: Ni in an amount of 2 to 4% is added to molten chromium cast iron containing Cr of ultrahigh concentration in the range of 27±2% to improve the machinability of wear resistant high chromium cast iron. Further, instead of the addition of Ni, any of 1-2% Si, 2-5% misch metal, 2-5% Ti, 0.1-0.5% Mg, and 1-3% Ca is added to the molten chromium cast iron containing Cr of ultrahigh concentration in the range of 27±2%, and then, casting is performed. By this method, machinability can be improved while keeping the hardness required of products causing abrasive wear, while obviating the necessity of the used of elements, such as S, Se, Pb, Te, Bi, and P.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
