PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation direction judging device which can sense the rotation direction of an engine using two sensors. ;SOLUTION: A crankshaft gear 14 has at the periphery a plurality of teeth at a constant spacing, and part thereof is missing 19. An electromagnetic pickup 16 emits crank angle signals, which have different time intervals when the pickup intercepts the tooth missing part from when it intercepts the other parts. When one tooth 24 of a cam shaft gear 21 intercepts another electromagnetic pickup 22, a reference signal is emitted, and before and after the emission of reference signal, the intervals of the crank angle signal and reference signal differ. The rotating direction of the engine can be judged by comparing the size of time intervals of the output of the reference signal and output of crank angle signal between before and after the reference signal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
