PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a switching loss being generated by an entire inverter to half, by performing the pulse width control of only one of first and second switching elements and only one of third and fourth switching elements. ;SOLUTION: Switching elements 2 and 5 are turned on for a half cycle, thus supplying a specific positive voltage to an AC load 10. At this time, a pulse in the half cycle is divided into a plurality of parts only by the switching element 2 and a pulse width is controlled. When the switching element 2 is off and the switching element 5 is on, a reflux flows to the AC load 10 via the switching element 5 and a reflux diode 7 when the switching element 2 is off and the switching element 5 is on and voltage being applied to the AC load 10 reaches zero. The switching elements 2 and 5 are turned off and the switching elements 3 and 4 are turned on, thus supplying a negative specific voltage to the AC load 10. At this time, a pulse width is controlled only by the switching element 4. When the switching element 4 is off and the switching element 3 is on, voltage being applied to the AC load 10 reaches zero.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
