PROCESS FOR PURIFICATION OF A 69000 DALTON ANTIGENIC PROTEIN FROM BORDETELLA PERTUSSIS

A process for extracting and purifying aprotein having an apparent molecular weight of about69,000 daltons from the outer membrane of the bacteriumBordetella pertussis is provided. The process includesinactivating Bordetella pertussis cells with abacteriostatic agent, repetitive extraction, andpurification of the 69,000 dalton protein from extractby dye ligand chromatography followed bychromatofocusing. The process results in improvedyield and stability of the 69,000 dalton protein.
