THE eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) HIGH INTEREST TO HUMAN HEALTH, has been obtained from the microalgae Phaeodactylum PIX through a process of three stages: EXTRACTION OF FATTY ACIDS BY DIRECT saponification BIOMASS HUMEDA; CONCENTRATION Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) BY THE METHOD OF UREA AND PURIFICATION EPA liquid chromatography (HPLC). EXTRACTION OF FATTY ACIDS HAS BEEN PERFORMED WITH KOH-ethanol (96% V / V) (1H, 60 C) extracted 90.9% EPA present in the biomass.
