Process for the production of vitamin B12 from polluting wastes in the citrus growing industries. Cultivation of the strain Propionibacterium shermanii ATCC 13673 using as a substrate the heated juice of the essential oil of lemons treated with sodium hydroxide and supplemented with a source of nitrogen and in the presence of a source of cobalt at a pH of between 6.5 and 8.2 and at a temperature of between 28 and 32 degree C. The process has a dual industrial application, the production of vitamin B12 and the utilization of wastes which are highly polluting for the environment.
