A method for transmitting an alarm signal for the protection of connections in mixed synchronous (SDH) and plesiochronous (PDH) networks based on a client signal failure (CSF) arrangement which transfers alarm indications from the PDH client transport layer to the SDH server transport layer, in order to allow to carry out the complete protection for connections in networks and subnetworks SNC-P within said mixed networks.
