A foam plastics structural element (1) consists of a flexible collar (5), with two mirror-image side extensions (3) forming a hollow recess (6) whose cross-section is identical to that of the collar (5). Two or more such battens form a tongue-and-groove assembly which can be built up as required into e.g. a floating toy for playing in the swimming pool.
