A jack (26) comprising a headphone jack (22) and a data connector (25) can accommodate either a remote controller-equipped headphone plug (110) or a data communication plug (210). The remote controller (103) communicates with the equipment using a TSB protocol through the connector (113) which is integrated with the head phone plug (112), and when the plug (210) is used the two audio devices communicate using IEEE 1394.
