This invention concerns a device for smoking tobacco which has material containing nicotine and permeable to air located in a second chamber (3) between a first chamber (7) holding the tobacco to be smoked and the mouth end (8). When hot tobacco smoke produced in the first chamber (7) passes through the material, nicotine is given off, however the carcinogenic materials in the tobacco smoke are absorbed.
