The instant invention relates to core yarns selectedcore threads of polyester material, a process for theirmanufacture and their use. The core yarns arecharacterized in thata) the core thread consists of filaments of fiber- forming polyester which has an average molecular weight corresponding to a relative solution viscosity of at least 1.9,b) the core thread has a specific strength of at least 60 cN/tex, andc) the seam length to rupture of the core yarn is more than 800 cm in a sewing test under aggravated conditions.
