Photoinitiator for cationic polymerisation comprises salts of organometallic complexes grafted on a polyorganosiloxane squelette and are of formula (I), where m = 0.5-50; n = 0-500; p = 0-50; m=n = at least 2; R1 = opt. branched 1-6C alkyl or phenyl; A = organometallic salt residue of formula (L1L2M)+q.qX- (II). M = gp. 4-10 metal; L1 = 1 or 2 ligands bonded to M by bond and comprising eta 3-allylalkyl, eta 5-cyclopentadienyl or eta 7-cycloheptatrienyl or opt. substd. eta 6-benzene cpds. or cpds. having 2-4 condensed rings, each ring capable of contributing to the valency or M by 3-8 electrons; L2 = 0-3 ligands bonded to M by sigma electrons and comprising CO or NO2; X = BF4, PF6, AsF6 and/or SbF6; q = 1 or 2; R2 = (1) 2-6C opt. branched alkylene; (2) gp. of formula -R3-O-R4-; (3) alkylene-cyclohexylene gp. where the alkylene has 2-4C and is opt. branched and the cyclohexylene has an OH gp. and opt. 1-2 1-3 C alkyl substits.; or (4) gp. of formula -R5-O-R6-; R3,R4,R5,R6 = opt. branched 1-6C alkylene; R6 is bonded to Z and the two gps. are opt. substd. by OH; Z = silyl of formula -Si(R7)2- when R2 is as (1) or (2); and Z = silyl of formula -Si(R7)2- when R2 is as (1) or (2); and Z = -O-CO- when R2 is as (3) or (4); R7 = 1-6C opt. branched alkyl; B = carried gp. for an epoxy; when R2 is as (1) or (2) and Z is Si(R7)2-, p is 0; and when R2 is as (3) or (4) and Z is -O-CO-, p is 0 or a positive number and B is a precursor of R2 having an epoxy gp. at the end furthest from the end bonded to Si. Also claimed are: (i) the prepn. of the cpds. (see PREPARATION); (ii) polyorganosiloxane compsns. which are crosslinkable under cationic conditions, by photochemistry or electrons comprising 100 pts.wt. of a polyorganosiloxane having epoxy functional gps., the above cpd. (I) and 0-50 pts.wt. of conventional additives; and (iii) a process for rendering articles non-adherent to surfaces to which they normally adhere involving applying 0.1-5 g/m2 of the compsn. in (ii) and crosslinking.
