A flexible waterproof sheet (4) is placed over the whole surface of the room and is firmly attached to the edges to collect any water leaking from above. The sheet has an opening (6) in a particular area (5) which allows the water to be drained. There is a plug (7) in the opening which is positioned above sanitary equipment such as a wash basin. The sheet is positioned so that the water runs down the slope to the drainage hole. The sheet is held in position by a shaped section (11) which is attached to the wall or ceiling which has a supporting lip (12) and a flexible section (13) in the edge of the sheet which forms a hook which fits over the lip of the fixed section. The sheet may be installed when the building is constructed and the edges fixed in the walls. The area around the opening is reinforced.
