The invention relates to a method for autonomous guidance of an artillery projectile (2) stabilized by rotation, on a target (12). To obtain that an artillery projectile (2; 25) very precisely hits a target (12), even at distances greater than or equal to 35 km, the invention proposes that, before firing the projectile (2) , the target data, determined beforehand, are transmitted to the latter and that, after firing the projectile (2), these data are compared with the position data of the projectile, measured using a navigation system by satellite. The correction data resulting from this comparison is then used to direct the projectile (2). To this end, shortly before the guidance phase, we pass from a flight state stabilized by rotation to a flight state stabilized by ailerons, then an aerodynamic guidance of the projectile (2) is carried out by means of deployable fins (9). outside the projectile, arranged at the front thereof, the rotation brakes (7) acting as lift surfaces, once placed in a locked state.
