PURPOSE: To obtain an alicyclic epoxy resin which quickly cures at room. temp. when exposed to ultraviolet rays, etc., by allowing 1,3-butadiene and an acrylic ester to undergo the Diels-Alder reaction and epoxidizing the reaction product with an org. peracid. ;CONSTITUTION: 1,3-Butadiene and an acrylic ester are allowed to undergo the Diels-Alder reaction, and the reaction product is epoxidized with an org. peracid (e.g. peracetic acid) to give an alicyclic epoxy resin which is represented by formula I (wherein R is a residue of a hydroxylated compd.; m is 1-6; and n is 0-5) but does not include the compd. of formula II. The resin may by produced by allowing 1,3-butadiene and acrylic acid to undergo the Diels-Alder reaction, condensing the resulting 3-cyclohexene-1-carboxylic acid with a polyol, and epoxidizing the condensate with a peracid. A compsn. contg. the resin and a cationic photopolymn. initiator is suitable as a printing ink, a coating material, etc.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
