Smoking tobacco for user-prepared cigarettes, inparticular those employing prefabricated cigarette-papertubes, comprises at least one tobacco portion in the formof a slab which itself comprises at least two subportionseach held together by an internal and/or external fixative.The outer surface of the tobacco portion and/or thesubportions is air-pervious so that a directed airstreamcannot be drawn through it whereby the respective tobaccoportion and subportions are non-smokable as formed. Eachsubportion comprises a sufficient quantity of tobacco forone cigarette and forms a stick of tobacco with asubstantially polygonal, in particular rectangular andpreferably square cross section. The length of eachsubportion corresponds to the length of a tobacco-receivingspace of the cigarette to be produced.
