A nursery gate is provided with a pivoted latch (78). When the gate (72) isswung to a closed position where it is co-planar with the keeper (10) andhinge axis (58), the latch draw (90) engages the keeper. At that time a detentprovided by the nose (74) and the recess (76) engages due to a spring movementof one of the part in the direction of the hinge axis. The gate is releasedfor opening by a movement in the opposite direction against the spring so asto separate the nose (74) and recess (76) and allow the latch to pivot.
