The airspace is monitored autonomously by each firearm unit (12,112). The firearm units inform the other units of their own results of the monitoring, so that they all have the same air position information. A threat is qualified by each firearm unit itself, but coordinated with at least one further firearm unit. Tracking devices of a firearm guidance apparatus and the weapons of each firearm unit can be employed independently. A firearm group (10) is also claimed, as is the use of the firearm group to protect an object.
