The present invention relates to absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins with side flaps, panty liners, adult incontinence articles and the like. The absorbent article with side flaps has wrinkles that can expand when the flaps wrap around the curved side edges of the wearer's underwear to relax the stresses that develop on the flaps. Also disclosed are peelable wrappers that cover the adhesive fasteners on the garment-facing side of the absorbent article and provide individual packaging for sanitary napkins.
