Metal-containing catalyst supports, especially for metallocene catalysts, can be prepared efficiently in high space-time yield by steeping the support material in a solution containing the metal. A metal-containing catalyst support or catalyst support component is obtained by steeping the support material in a steeping solution containing the metal component, and streaming the steeping solution through the support material. Independent claims are included for: (1) A metal-containing catalyst support obtained as above; (2) a process for preparation of polymers from monomers with carbon-carbon (C-C) double bonds and/or C-C triple bonds by polymerization of the monomers in the presence of the metal-containing catalyst support or catalyst support component prepared as above.
