Spontaneous coiling of descending, hot, flexible, elastomeric and adherent extruded strand onto cone, saves manual effort and parts adjacent turns on cooling with contraction, preventing sticking together
Freshly extruded (1) strand (2) descends (6) freely and axially (4) onto an upward-pointing conical support (5) surface (7), winding itself on, as adjacent stacked turns (8). An Independent claim is included for the conical support, with an angle measured at the base, of 80 deg -45 deg and preferably closer to 75 deg . Preferred features: Strand extrudes over a wheel (3). Several may be fed to wheels, feeding individual cones. A cooling bath may intervene. Cone and strand are supplied directly to an injection molding machine for further processing. They may be cooled first. The support is a frustrated cone, and may has a conical tip (10) to enhance it. The surface has a series of spaced beads. The tip has a bead at its lower edge, with increased projection. A separate ring bead may be set upon either part. At the base there is a groove accommodating the first turn. Supports are hollow and stack. Further salient features include external ring supports with air vents. The support and its components are plastic or metal sheet, and hollow. A rough surface may be produced on the supports e.g. by sand blasting.
