The low-pressure (8) and high-pressure (9) reservoirs are connected to a working cylinder (1) which is connected to the vehicle bodywork. The high-pressure air reservoir is connected directly to a first working chamber (4a) which acts to extend the spring leg. A first damping valve (2a) may let air through the piston (3) into a second working chamber (4b) under the piston and a second damping valve (4b) may return the air. The low-pressure reservoir has a connection passing through a pump rod (7) which fits concentrically inside the hollow piston rod (5). A pumping chamber (6) is formed inside the piston rod. As the spring is alternately compressed and released, air may flow in through an inlet valve (14) and be pumped through an outlet valve into the first chamber.
