The method involves inserting the fuel injection valve (22) between a fuel supply device (10) and a test body (12), so that the fuel injection valve is filled with fuel and subjected to a given pressure characteristic, with measurement of the hydrocarbon concentration of the fuel stream fed through the test body, e.g. using -a flame ionization detector. An Independent claim is also included for a fuel injection valve leakage rate detection device.
